For the month of August, we are focusing on our local community, specifically Boardman Township. We had the opportunity to hear from Fire Chief Mark Pitzer, who has been the Boardman Fire Chief for the last five years. Boardman has three fire stations and 12 fireman on duty for each shift. Last year, they had almost $5,000 fire and medical emergency call and are on track to hit that number for 2019. Chief Pitzer has also worked very hard to get our fire station from a 5 ranking (1 being the best and 10 being the worst) to hopefully a 2 or 3 for this year. Boardman's Chief of Police, Todd Werth, also came to talk about the work they are doing at the police station. He talked about their goal to be out and about in the community - to be seen and to create not only a sense of security, but actual secure neighborhoods. He also mentioned that the police station has a SafeTrade Station where people can come and buy/trade items in a safe area. Chief Werth also thanked Boardman Rotary for all that we do for the community!! The Boardman's Fire Department and Police department have also been working closely together to train firefighters to go in, side by side, with the police in emergency situations (i.e. mass shootings) to attend to the injured instead of waiting until the scene is completely cleared. |
