Welcome to the first edition of the Rotary Club of Boardman's Newsletter! This newsletter is designed to keep our members informed, connected, and engaged with everything happening in our club and throughout our community.
As Rotarians, we proudly live out our motto, Service Above Self, by supporting local organizations, volunteering our time, building lasting friendships, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Together, we continue the strong tradition of service that makes our club so special.

On June 23rd we celebrated Mason Shattuck's "Second Timer" President's Party! He joined Shelly in the "Second Timer Club" - and boy is she happy...it was lonely! Congratulations, Mason! Thank you for always putting Service Above Self and leading our club this past year with laughs, joy, and service to our community!

Deborah "Deb" Liptak
Joined Boardman Rotary: October 1, 2002
A Boardman resident for 50 years, Deb Liptak served 23 years as Development Director for the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County. She currently serves as Chair of the Boardman Community Foundation, President of the Boardman Historical Society, and Chair of Easterseals of Northeast Ohio.
A graduate of Youngstown State University and Leadership Mahoning Valley, Deb has been a Rotarian for almost 24 years and is a Paul Harris Fellow. Her lifelong commitment to community service has earned her numerous honors, including recognition as an Athena Award nominee. She is also an active member of St. Charles Parish and enjoys running, tennis, pickleball, and spending time with her family.

President Elect of Boardman Rotary, Shannon Tirone
Joined Boardman Rotary: December 31, 1994
Shannon Tirone has been a proud member of the Boardman Rotary Club since 1994 and is honored to serve as Vice President. In this role, she looks forward to supporting the Club's President while preparing to lead as President during the 2027–2028 Rotary year.
Professionally, Shannon serves in university leadership at Youngstown State University as Vice President of University Relations, where she specializes in event oversight, community engagement, donor relations, and fostering meaningful partnerships. Throughout her career, she has been passionate about connecting people, advancing organizational missions, and creating opportunities that strengthen both the university and the community.
Shannon believes that lasting impact begins with meaningful relationships. Guided by Rotary's motto, Service Above Self, she is committed to working alongside fellow Rotarians to serve the community, support local initiatives, and inspire the next generation of leaders.

Beth Ann Tabak-Jennings

From a young age, Beth Ann loved to write, creating stories from her experiences throughout her school day. She also never hesitated to, well, talk. She’s proud to
bring these two favorite things together in her role as Communications Manager at PDMI, where she has been employed for the last seven years. Within that role, she is responsible for managing internal and external communications, which includes developing newsletters, communications campaigns, engagement strategies, and client-facing materials.
A writer by trade, the early part of her career was spent working at a local newspaper
- a job that once required her to follow the path of a “mini-tornado” and cover a steer
auction in the same week – before moving into the marketing and PR sphere.
Beth Ann has been a Boardman Rotarian since 2012, and in that time, she has held several roles, including President in 2018-2019, and acting as Youth Services Director since 2022. Beth Ann has also been involved with the RYLA program since 2010 as a facilitator.
She and her husband, Chris, have two daughters, Adelaide, 6, and Mika, 3, and two cats. While now you can mostly catch her at the playground or listening to far too many podcasts, she loves live music (she and Chris are three-time attendees of Bonnaroo) and travelling, two interests she is excited to share with her girls as they grow. Her favorite show of all time is “Parks and Recreation.”
Meet Our Treasurer Treasurer of Boardman Rotary, Ken Goldsboro
Joined Boardman Rotary: January 2, 1989
I am a lifelong Boardman Resident and graduated from Boardman High School. I received my bachelor's and master's from YSU with a focus on Business Finance. I was a commercial banker in this town for over 40 years, spending 10 years at Chase, 23 years at Huntington, and 10 years at Premier Bank before retiring in 2024. Since I retired, I spend more time volunteering at Rotary as the new Treasurer, a Board member for Potential Development a School for Autistic Children, a Board member for the Mahoning Valley Phoenix, an organization of over 50 disabled adults that participate in athletic and social functions. I am also on the Session at my church. I have been in Rotary since 1989. I was proposed by a local pediatrician, VK Sethi. During my time in Rotary I chaired two Octoberfests. I am now excited to have recently started my role as Treasurer.
Personally, I have been married to my wife Caroline for 28 years and we have two children, Kenny and Kaylee. I have really been enjoying my retirement, spending more time volunteering, and working on my golf game. My volunteer duties with the Phoenix include coaching track and basketball.
Being that I sit at the "medicare" table, you can guess I don't have my coaching positions due to my speed or my vertical! But I really enjoy working with the group.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Morgan O'Brien, Director of Operations at Cornerstone Caregiving
Joined Boardman Rotary: November 24, 2025
I graduated from Canfield High School in 2016. I went to Kent State University and earned my Bachelor's in Public Health Administration. I currently am the Director of Operations for Cornerstone Caregiving in Youngstown, OH where we serve over 300 seniors in our community. I truly have a passion for helping others and finding ways to give back. I currently serve on the boards for Animal Charity of Ohio, the Community Council Board for Youngstown Air Base, Boardman Rotary and Board for Junior League of Mahoning Valley, where I chair a division for Research and Development. I was also an Athena Nominee in 2025. I hope my experience across these fields brings value to this club. I reside in Canfield with my husband, Brady, and our two dogs Callie and Cooper.
3 Fun Facts:
1. I love to plan vacations and experiences for myself and other people. I really wish I were a travel agent because of it!
2. I am currently looking into getting my pilot's license
3. I am afraid of Movie Theaters. (super weird, I know)

BRIAN'S SONG OF THE MONTH
If you don't know already, Brian Governor runs our Song of the Week schedule at Rotary. So, I wanted to dedicate this part of the newsletter to him! Singing may not be anyone's full time job in the Club, but who doesn't enjoy hearing a good ole round of Lil Liza Jane to brighten up our day!
Our August Song of the Month is "Walking on Sunshine". A fun, upbeat classic that captures the joy and positivity of the end of summer. It reminds us that even small acts of kindness can brighten someone's day, just as Rotary members do through service in our community.
