Dave Hull and Mason Carratt were on hand to give Boardman Rotary a look inside Tent City Youngstown, a non-profit organization recently launched in the city. 

 

The organization seeks those are "houseless" or forced to sleep outside for whatever reason, and works to connect them to permanent housing, mental health professionals, job training and other needed services. Tent City Youngstown also takes donations to distribute to those living in the tent areas. Among those items needed are:

 

Back packs with frames (these are serve as the mode in which a person has to carry their "home" if forced to relocate)

Duffel Bags

Tarps

Sleeping Bag

Thermals

Flash Lights

Batteries

Canned Meat

Gift Cards for places like McDonald's, Family Dollar or Dollar General

WRTA Bus Passes

Fruit Juice

First Aid Kits

Hygiene Products

Hand Warmers

Instant Coffee or Hot Chocolate

Tracfone Cards

Clothing

Boots

Jackets

 

Mason and Dave both noted that, should someone want to make a donation, that he or she should deliver them to specific drop-off locations. No donations should be dropped over any of the city bridges onto the camps, nor should anyone take items directly to the camps.

The annual pancake breakfast is just around the corner. The dates for this year's breakfast are Saturday, March 21; Sunday, March 22; Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29.

A reminder that the regular board meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 7 a.m. at Wittenauer's Cafe in Poland. The meeting is for board members, but all are welcome to join.
